So T&T goin an get ah female president or what?

Eef it happen, what it go really mean doh? What go be de significance?

Fuh mih own benefit, let mih start by seein eef ah understand some basics. Ah could be rong.

T&T is one of about thirty someting countries still practicin de Westminster form ah govahment. However, only ah dozen or so ah dat number have done what I consider tuh be ah upgrade an morphed into ah republic wid ah president an ting, like no more singin God save any monarch. Triniland an Dominica leadin de region in dat regard.

While T&T could conceivably get hit wid ah vaps an next ting yuh know is ah national holiday eef dis Madam Justice name Paula Mae Weekes get de nod an become de first female president, Triniland have tuh remember Dominica done blaze dat trail wid it first female president in 2012 tuh 2013.

Outside de region, both India an Ireland had dey own female president buh eef ah not rong, out ah de two only India have de same kind ah republic format T&T have where de president not de leader ah de country. Or, at least doesn’t set policy since all de executive power in de hands ah de prime minister.

While President Carmona did cause ripples ah excitement an under-currents of anticipation at he inauguration when he hint at what power he might have versus what he mightn’t have, in de end it was all nuttin but presidential gun tork.

In my estimation de president not even de moral head ah Triniland. I give dat title tuh David Abdulah, ah man before his time.

Anyways, while Triniland right up dey in terms ah what could soon be ah female president, figure-head or not, given de times de country in, such a person go cut ah imposin figure.

When ah say, “de times de country in”, I dey wid non-stop violence against women. So far in dis super young year, two equally young women done get dey life violently ended.

De stench ah domestic violence hangin over one.

Would ah she-president be able tuh put she stamp orn dis issue tuh de extent dat she would have more influence or even power dan de Midnight Robber-esque Anthony Carmona?

Me eh know de answer tuh dat buh ah tink de road go be long an hard judgin from how one newspaper choose tuh start it article about de murdered woman thereby addin tuh de stench:

A MOTHER of two, who had been repeatedly warned to leave an abusive relationship, is the first woman to be killed in the country this year.”

Tuh me dat suggest de act ah violence dat ended de woman’s life was she fault. Or, at least she contributed tuh she death. How else tuh interpret dat dozy of ah openin?

I cyar see no difference between de response tuh dat headline from de response after ah mudder keep warnin she chile, most likely ah boy, tuh stop doin whatever it is she see as ah risk an since he eh take she orn cause he harden someting bard gorn an happen tuh he.

It wouldn’t surprise me in de least eef Dominica, India, Ireland an Israel, along wid dem countries dat never had ah female president, eh all full ah people, includin women, who believe woman who does get mistreated by dey man, look fuh dat.

Since gender equality missin from what ah just say wouldn’t surprise me, switchin de sexes go ensure abused men not go get left out.

No solution ah mih own tuh dis vexin problem of abuse is de major reason I hope Kamla an dem eh go play de damn fool an do anyting tuh put ah spanner in de works ah selectin de Madam Justice as T&T next president. Granted, I sure I in de vast majority who never hear about dis Judge Judy woman before, it have tuh have somebody, preferably ah woman, in ah high place tuh champion de cause. Why not de presidency?

Ah cyar see no feminist dislikin mih stance orn it havin ah well-placed advocate fuh abused women. Ah tink dat about tuh change doh. Tuh start orf, ah wonder which part all dese supporters of women rights, an in general, empowerin women, pop up from tuh voice how much dey in favor of ah female president. Shouldn’t empowerment be more of ah grass roots activity? Like showin women dey options when it come tuh domestic violence an makin sure de law firm an reliable when it come tuh abuser punishment?

I doh recall seein too many groups up in arms after Arisa David geh strangled, allegedly by someone she was in ah relationship wid. By de way, eef yuh cyar wait tuh see what dat person look like, check out Arisa Facebook page.

I also eh recall seein or hearin from too many groups in all of 2017. How hard it would ah be tuh get involve? After all, wid fifty-two women murdered, de rate was one ah week.

De Caribbean Association for Feminist Research an Action? Who dem be?

So, when all de ole tork done — like now, what really it go mean fuh de country tuh have ah female president?

Maybe dat T&T marchin ornwards wid ah next male-dominated institution fallin? After all, ent women in positions ah authority all over in T&T?

Not tuh mention how year after year after year, female students does kick dem boys arse in dem exams tuh get into secondary school. De same exact ting does happen five years later in de follow-up exams tuh see how secondary school was.

What about as far as de significance of dis, possible “presidential achievement”?

Dat go be de tellin one. Eef people honest, dey go have tuh skin up dey face, wince an suck air through dey teet. All because dat achievement go show it have ah ways tuh go before all Trini women get de treatment dey deserve an doh have it depend so much orn dey level of education. Let’s face it, sayin orn yuh Facebook page dat yuh study at some primary school doh exactly speak tuh academic excellence.

Too many dotish men wid serious issues about dey masculinity dat only solvable, in dey eyes, by violatin women.

De saddest part ah all dis?

It have plenty more women out dey who in relationship wid dem kinda men. Dey need more dan ah patronizin voice an editors hawkin newspapers; dey need ah advocate before we tragically find out about some ah dem relationships.

Will ah female president do?
